Photo Editing

As a photo editor for the Columbia Missourian, I worked with photographers, the assistant directors of photography and fellow photo editors. Throughout my time as a photo editor I worked on various projects, ranging from special sections to being assigned to an individual beat of reporters. I learned how to collaborate well with others and how important design is in the element of photography.

On each shift I worked with a group of photographers to help them understand their assignments. As an editor, I would go through each  full group of photos and pick out the ones that fit the story or crafted a narrative by themselves, going through that process with the photographer. After that, I would edit the photos, which included a process of cropping, toning and color correction.​

The photo pages below are a sampling of the work I did on the Columbia Missourian’s special section titled “COMO Kids.” This special section is a conglomeration of kids in and around Columbia that have extraordinary and compelling stories, such as a talent they are known for. I was tasked as a photo editor, with arranging when the photos would take place and what would be captured.

I was there to provide guidance on what the special section needs to support the profile stories, but ultimately, I helped combed through many photos to make up the photo pages in the section.
