Drone Video/Production

I took a Drone Journalism class during my time at the University of Missouri that allowed me to prepare and gain my Part 107 certification as a licensed drone pilot. During the class, we practiced taxonomy with a variety of drone shots, such as orbits, turns, crane shots, and more. As the final project for the class we were each assigned a partner to work with in order to produce a drone video of some sort illustrating a news story or an advertisement for a company of your choosing.

For our final project we chose to do an advertisement for the Les Bourgeious Vineyards at the BluffTops at Rocheport located in Rocheport, Missouri.  We worked with the faculty and staff at the facility to focus primarily on the A-Frame structure that they have for visitors to picnic at.

We worked to showcase their beautiful view, scenery and vast landscape, as well as combine a narrative script with music to make the video a smooth experience for viewers.

For the project, my group partner and I planned out the shots we would take for each part of the video by making a storyboard of the project and checking those items off when we completed filming.  My favorite part about being a drone certified pilot is that I have the freedom to add a layer to a story in the newsroom that is new, innovative and informative that can expand the impact of a story.
