These photos represent several different internships and courses I have taken to develop my skills in the art of photography. From a photography internship capturing summer camp activities at Missouri Military Academy to taking my first film photography class at the University of Missouri, I have grown a lot in my visual storytelling language.

Photography Internship:
I worked as a photography intern at Missouri Military Academy where I took pictures of the summer camps at the school, as well as school events throughout the year. I lived on campus throughout the summer camps, and was responsible for taking the photos at various events and activities, putting them into slideshows for the parents of the campers, as well as posting them to the school's social platforms. The experience taught me a lot about working with the harsh summer light, playing with shadows, and capturing emotion in each photograph, no matter the tone of the situation.
B&W Photography Class
The photos above are from a black and white film photography course I took where each photographer was required to use a 4 X 5 film camera. The camera was hard to master, with it's manual controls, but eventually I learned to love the tactile nature of the photos. I learned how to develop my own photos in the darkroom for the first time, which I now love doing. The course challenged me to take pictures following several different prompts such as "things in places they aren't supposed to be," allowing me to develop my creative touch with the setup of each photograph. I took this course originally to learn how to master my darkroom at home (that I converted a storage room into during the pandemic) but along the way I learned that it is so much more than just the darkroom --- I built a closer relationship with photography and the work that goes into each photo.
Science Communications Internship

I worked as a science communications intern for the Bond Life Sciences Center at the University of Missouri from December 2022-2023. I was responsible for writing stories, taking photos to complement the narrative and posting on the center's social media platforms. I wrote a variety of different story formats --- from profile stories to more in-depth articles. I worked closely with the Senior Strategic Communications Consultant, Roger Meissen, who edited my stories.
